UCA All Americans!

All Americans
Mishel Arthur, Caitlin Wiker and Jennifer Welches

While attending UCA Cheer Camp at Great Wolf Lodge this past week, Coach Carmen and Coach Kim were asked to nominate girls that they would like to have tryout for the UCA All American Cheer Team.
Nominees were picked not only based on their cheer skill and technique, but also on their attitude, attendance, and leadership skills. Just being nominated is a huge honor, and those who make the team are invited to participate and represent their school in a variety of events throughout the year. This year, 3 out of the 11 girls nominated from Wolves Cheer made the team. Those girls include Mishel Arthur and Caitlin Wiker from Varsity, and Jennifer Welches, who is on the JV squad.
Big props for all those that were nominated and tried out. They each tried out against all of the nominees from the other schools who attended the camp, approximately 80 girls.
It can be intimidating, especially for a girl who has never tried out before, and isn't quite sure what to expect. We are very proud of all of them for giving it their all and representing Sequim well.
CONGRATULATIONS to you all:

JV
Brenna Gallo, Annika Lawrence, Brooke Parsinen, Laura Rutherford, Inara Starks, and Jennifer Welches

VARSITY

BE AN ELEVEN!

On a scale from 1 to 10, what do you rate yourself?? Be an 11 in everthing you do! Start now by setting a goal - write it down!! Unless you write it down on paper and materialize it, a goal is just a wish. WRITE IT DOWN! Decide the steps you need to take to make your goal a reality, and how long it will take you to acomplish your goal. Tell someone about your goal, so they can encourage you and help you to reach your goal. Stay focused on your goal. Even if you get sidetracked along the way, keep moving in a forward direction. Eventually you will reach your goal!! We're here for you and we want you to succeed!

Doin' that Chalene Thang!

By now you have all been introduced to Chalene Johnson and hopefully you are all loving her just as much as I love her!! Her Turbo Jam workouts, as well as the Shaun T dance video, Staci's weights workouts, and Kim's yoga that we have been doing are all meant to build our strength, stamina and flexibility, as well as make us more fit - all things that are essential as Wolves Cheerleaders. As you are learning, Cheer is definitely a sport, and that makes you, as Cheerleaders, ATHLETES!
As we begin stunting and learning our dance, you will realize how helpful proper conditioning is and the role it plays in helping you to properly execute moves and stunts, helping you to be able to perform the fight song at a game WITH toe touches (EVEN if we are up 74 - 0!!), as well as helping you to avoid injury.
All of these things are crucial in building up our program to the level of performance that we want to be at.
The other day at practice, Lauren stated after seeing the UCA camp video, "I wish we could do that!" And my response to that statement is this:
We CAN do that!! We can perform at a level that is competitive with other squads.
You have the talent and the ability. You have the knowlege and you have enthusiastic coaches who are willing to help you every step of the way.
All that being said, it's not going to be easy. Think about it - nothing worthwhile usually ever is. It will take a lot of hard work and effort on your part. Kim and I can only do so much - The rest is up to you. Being accountable to your coaches and your teammates, showing up on time regularly to practices, working hard and not making excuses - all of these things are essential in helping you to reach your goals for cheerleading. So whether you want to improve your toe touch, perform the line dances perfectly, or attend a competition with your squad, now is the time to decide and make the commitment.
You are responsible for you own greatness!!
Kim and I believe in you - we know that you have what it takes!!
Keep up the great work. Keep coming to practices and working hard. In time, you will see results and you will reach your goals...
As you know by now, I'm a big fan of Chalene Johnson. Not only is she a fitness guru, but she's also a mom, motivational speaker, and business owner.
She has a blog if you would like to check her out sometime. Her link is on the Wolves Cheer sidebar under " blog list".
Enjoy.

Way to Go!

BIG PROPS to all of you who have been showing up to practices. YOU are getting better and stronger everyday!! Kim and I are aware of your hard work and effort (heck, it's NOT easy getting up early and working out during the summer!) We so appreciate YOU and know that YOU are the reason that we will be successful this year! Way to go!! Thank you SO MUCH!!

SEF Student Reps Recognized!

Melissa Karapostoles and Wolves Cheerleader, Annika Lawrence

Melissa Karapostoles and Annika Lawrence have been recognized by the Sequim Education Foundation
(SEF) board of directors for their outstanding service as Student Representatives. The foundation seats a representative from both Sequim High School and Sequim Middle School on their board of directors to insure the student point of view is considered in all of their planning and decisions. Lawrence served on the board during the 2008 - 2009 school year. She will be attending the high school next year, so her position will be filled with another middle school student.
The all-volunteer unpaid SEF board of directors is made up of nine elected citizens, the Superintendent of Schools, a member of the Sequim School Board, and student representatives from SMS and SHS. Student Reps have an equal vote with all other members of the board, so they must be prepared to consider all SEF business matters from planning fundraising events and determining investment strategies to making grants awarding scholarships.
"It's like serving on the board of any large corporation," President Dick Hughes said, "these young people must come prepared to ask intelligent questions and make good decisions at every meeting."
Sequim Education Foundation is the community's own local non-profit charity supporting Sequim's public school system.

support their Cheerleader!
Also, A BIG THANK YOU to Theresa for being such an awesome

Third Term Honor Roll

A Big HIGH FIVE to Persephone Nelson, Senior, and Sara Schade, Junior, for making the Honor Roll. Way to go!!

Beauty and The Beast!

I just have to say: If you weren't able to attend this year's
SHS Operatta, Disney's Beauty and The Beast, you really
missed out!! The cast, the set, the costumes - they were
all amazing. I had no idea how multi-talented the youth
at Sequim High School really are. I'm so proud of the
Wolves Cheer Cheerleaders that were involved in the
event. Not only can they cheer, but they can sing,
dance and act, as well!!
What does that make them in the entertainment world??
Quadruple Threats??
Way to go, girls! Your performances were AWESOME!

Riding the Fire Trucks in the Parade!

For as long as I've lived and coached cheer in Sequim,
I have always wondered why the Cheerleaders didn't participate
in some form or another in the Irrigation Festival Parade.
I've always felt that they are a big part of our community and should
be seen in this kind of big, community event.
Well, this was our first year to participate, largely in part
to Lee, our resident Cheer Dad, who has been so helpful to
me and my coaching staff since he has become a part of
"the team."
We appreciate him and his family (for sacrificing him for us), and
all that he had done so far to help promote and better
SHS Wolves Cheer.
Thank You! Thank You!
Lee!!
Today was FUN!
Thanks for making it a success!
