ANNOUNCEMENTS AND UPCOMING EVENTS:

Ok, well, a lot has been happening, and I just wanted to touch base with all of you who frequent the blog to let you know what has been going on, and what's coming up!
I hope you all had a chance to see the pictures from cheer camp, which took up the whole front page of the Sports section of this week's Sequim Gazette - it was SOOOOO COOL!!
I first want to say that CHEER CAMP was AWESOME! It was so much fun being at Great Wolf Lodge, and you all did a great job learning all of the material that was thrown at you - lots of cute dances and sidelines, and we got a great start on our routine for the first assembly. You all did a great job stunting. I think that the JV and Varsity squads working together is making everyone stronger. I really think that this will be one of our best years yet!! I hope you have all had a chance to watch the videos that are posted here on the sidebar and on YouTube. Well, you all worked so hard at camp, that Kim and I felt that you deserved a little break from cheer - which, I just gotta say, was really hard for us - just because we are so darn excited about all of the new material, and just want to get you back into the cheer mode as soon as possible. Really there's only about 3 weeks worth of practices before school starts up and we perform in our first assembly!!
THANK YOU to everyone who has helped out with PAINTING the cheer room!! It has been FUN to transform the drab walls into walls into"CHEERFUL" Purple and Gold!! We hope that it will be a fun and exciting place for you to come and show your spirit as you prepare for your games and pep rallys. We owe a lot of Thanks to LEE LAWRENCE for planning the painting and getting all of the supplies together for us. Also, saying thank you doesn't seem like quite enough for all the help that we have received from parents for all of our activities, fund raising, and rides!! A special thank you to MJ Duncan, Ann Holgerson, Terra Parsinen, Kelli Curren, and Linda Anderson, Grace Chumley, and Marlo Fazio!! We appreciate you supporting us!! I hope I didn't leave anyone out, and I know that even though we may not always see your faces, you support us by making sure your daughters are at practices and letting them participate in all of the activities and fundraisers. All of the rides, money, and time that you provide help to make us a better squad. Kim and I appreciate you, and we're sure that your daughters appreciate you, too!! So, a great BIG THANK YOU goes out to all of you!!
Practices will resume according to the schedule starting on Monday. (Mondays 8am to 11am, Tuesdays thru Thursdays 8am to 10am) There may be some extended practices just because we have so much to go over before school starts, so we just want you to be aware of that. Also, there may be some changes to the schedule in the 3rd week of August due to the fact that we need to prepare for our Little Kids Camp, which will take place August 26th -28th, 9am to 12noon, with a performance the night of Saturday, August 29th, at the Purple and Gold game, starting at 7pm.
Pictures with the football players will be on Tuesday, August 25th at 10am. These are fun pix with the football players - very cool. They used these pictures in the year book last year. I will have order forms for these pictures available next week at practices. Please plan on attending, even if you don't want to purchase pictures, so that everyone will be in the picture. If for some reason, you are unavailable at that time, not to worry, we will be getting team cheer pictures with Ernst shortly after school starts.
School starts on Wednesday, September 2nd. Varsity has a home game against PA on September 11th, and Husky Band Days is Saturday, September 12th.
As you can see, there is quite a lot going on, and quite a lot to look forward to!! I will have new calendars with our game and practice schedules available at practice on Monday, so that you can all plan ahead for our upcoming events.
Thanks again for all of your hard work and dedication!! We love and appreciate you all so much!!
CHEERFULLY,
CARMEN!

UCA All Americans!

All Americans
Mishel Arthur, Caitlin Wiker and Jennifer Welches

While attending UCA Cheer Camp at Great Wolf Lodge this past week, Coach Carmen and Coach Kim were asked to nominate girls that they would like to have tryout for the UCA All American Cheer Team.
Nominees were picked not only based on their cheer skill and technique, but also on their attitude, attendance, and leadership skills. Just being nominated is a huge honor, and those who make the team are invited to participate and represent their school in a variety of events throughout the year. This year, 3 out of the 11 girls nominated from Wolves Cheer made the team. Those girls include Mishel Arthur and Caitlin Wiker from Varsity, and Jennifer Welches, who is on the JV squad.
Big props for all those that were nominated and tried out. They each tried out against all of the nominees from the other schools who attended the camp, approximately 80 girls.
It can be intimidating, especially for a girl who has never tried out before, and isn't quite sure what to expect. We are very proud of all of them for giving it their all and representing Sequim well.
CONGRATULATIONS to you all:

JV
Brenna Gallo, Annika Lawrence, Brooke Parsinen, Laura Rutherford, Inara Starks, and Jennifer Welches

VARSITY
Mishel Arthur, Olivia Fazio, Brianna Gilles, Sara Schade, and Caitlin Wiker

Lavender Festival Parking Fundraiser!

Once again, Thanks to all the parents and girls who participated in the fund raiser - you made it such a success!!

BE AN ELEVEN!

On a scale from 1 to 10, what do you rate yourself?? Be an 11 in everthing you do! Start now by setting a goal - write it down!! Unless you write it down on paper and materialize it, a goal is just a wish. WRITE IT DOWN! Decide the steps you need to take to make your goal a reality, and how long it will take you to acomplish your goal. Tell someone about your goal, so they can encourage you and help you to reach your goal. Stay focused on your goal. Even if you get sidetracked along the way, keep moving in a forward direction. Eventually you will reach your goal!! We're here for you and we want you to succeed!
(From Kim's motivational thought of the week on Monday)

Doin' that Chalene Thang!

By now you have all been introduced to Chalene Johnson and hopefully you are all loving her just as much as I love her!! Her Turbo Jam workouts, as well as the Shaun T dance video, Staci's weights workouts, and Kim's yoga that we have been doing are all meant to build our strength, stamina and flexibility, as well as make us more fit - all things that are essential as Wolves Cheerleaders. As you are learning, Cheer is definitely a sport, and that makes you, as Cheerleaders, ATHLETES!
As we begin stunting and learning our dance, you will realize how helpful proper conditioning is and the role it plays in helping you to properly execute moves and stunts, helping you to be able to perform the fight song at a game WITH toe touches (EVEN if we are up 74 - 0!!), as well as helping you to avoid injury.
All of these things are crucial in building up our program to the level of performance that we want to be at.
The other day at practice, Lauren stated after seeing the UCA camp video, "I wish we could do that!" And my response to that statement is this:
We CAN do that!! We can perform at a level that is competitive with other squads.
You have the talent and the ability. You have the knowlege and you have enthusiastic coaches who are willing to help you every step of the way.
All that being said, it's not going to be easy. Think about it - nothing worthwhile usually ever is. It will take a lot of hard work and effort on your part. Kim and I can only do so much - The rest is up to you. Being accountable to your coaches and your teammates, showing up on time regularly to practices, working hard and not making excuses - all of these things are essential in helping you to reach your goals for cheerleading. So whether you want to improve your toe touch, perform the line dances perfectly, or attend a competition with your squad, now is the time to decide and make the commitment.
You are responsible for you own greatness!!
Kim and I believe in you - we know that you have what it takes!!
Keep up the great work. Keep coming to practices and working hard. In time, you will see results and you will reach your goals...
As you know by now, I'm a big fan of Chalene Johnson. Not only is she a fitness guru, but she's also a mom, motivational speaker, and business owner.
She has a blog if you would like to check her out sometime. Her link is on the Wolves Cheer sidebar under " blog list".
Enjoy.

Way to Go!

BIG PROPS to all of you who have been showing up to practices. YOU are getting better and stronger everyday!! Kim and I are aware of your hard work and effort (heck, it's NOT easy getting up early and working out during the summer!) We so appreciate YOU and know that YOU are the reason that we will be successful this year! Way to go!! Thank you SO MUCH!!
